Comparative Chemistry of Aspergillus oryzae (RIB40) and A. flavus (NRRL 3357)

Aspergillus oryzae and A. flavus are important species in industrial biotechnology and food safety and have been some of the first aspergilli to be fully genome sequenced. Bioinformatic analysis has revealed 99.5% gene homology between the two species pointing towards a large coherence in the secondary metabolite production. In this study we report on the first comparison of secondary metabolit...

Draft genome sequence of Aspergillus oryzae strain 3.042.

Aspergillus oryzae is the most important fungus for the traditional fermentation in China and is particularly important in soy sauce fermentation. We report the 36,547,279-bp draft genome sequence of A. oryzae 3.042 and compared it to the published genome sequence of A. oryzae RIB40.

Extracellular proteinases of Aspergillus oryzae.

Although the production of proteolytic enzymes by different strains of Aspergillus oryzae has been investigated in submerged culture (5, 15), in static liquid culture (3, 11), and on solid substratum (8-10), there appear to be few reports pertaining to the comparative evaluation of these different methods on the elaboration of proteinases by specific strains of A. oryzae. K. Mogi (13) compared ...

Production of amylase in liquid culture by a strain of Aspergillus oryzae.

The effect of different media and pH on the formation of amylase by Aspergillus oryzae EI 212 is described. Depending upon the composition of the medium and growth conditions, the fungus was found to secrete alpha- or beta-amylase, or both. Some of the properties of the partially purified alpha-amylase were found to be different from alpha-amylases from other sources.

Cyclopiazonic Acid Biosynthesis of Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus oryzae

Cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) is an indole-tetramic acid neurotoxin produced by some of the same strains of A. flavus that produce aflatoxins and by some Aspergillus oryzae strains. Despite its discovery 40 years ago, few reviews of its toxicity and biosynthesis have been reported. This review examines what is currently known about the toxicity of CPA to animals and humans, both by itself or in comb...
